Seven newborns perished in a fire at a children’s hospital in Delhi that was operating with an expired license, according to officials. A Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia payment has been declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to each deceased person’s next of kin.
While its registration with the Directorate General of Health Services expired about two months ago, the children’s hospital in East Delhi, where a fire broke out Saturday night and seven babies lost their lives, was still operational, officials confirmed on Sunday. Dr. Naveen, the proprietor of the New Born Baby Care Hospital in Vivek Vihar, was taken into custody by the Delhi police earlier today. Nine fire tenders were dispatched to the scene after the incident at the hospital broke out at approximately 11.30 p.m., according to Delhi Fire Services. A short circuit is thought to have started the fire.
Police are currently attempting to piece together the hints to determine exactly what occurred at the hospital and set off the big fire.
In a second instance of this type, early on Sunday morning, a residential structure in the Krishna Nagar neighborhood of East Delhi caught fire, killing three people. These instances happened soon after Rajkot, Gujarat, saw a catastrophic fire that destroyed a packed game zone and killed at least 27 people.

Six children have lost their lives as a result of the tragedy, according to DCP Shahdara, Surendra Chaudhary. We found out that the hospital’s NOC had expired on March 31 and that, although they were only permitted to have five beds, they had more than ten beds occupied. We have arrested the director, Dr. Naveen Kichi, and added sections 304 and 308 of the IPC to the FIR, keeping in mind that they did not have a fire exit system. One of the on-call physicians, Dr. Akash, has also been taken into custody.
